About us

The Faculty of Science,  Agriculture and Engineering operates from KwaDlangezwa Main Campus and Richards Bay Campus. The Faculty comprises of office of the Executive Dean, Faculty Office, fourteen Departments (Agriculture, Biochemistry and Microbiology, Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Consumer Science, Engineering, Geography and Environmental Studies, Hydrology, Human Movement Science (Biokinetics), Mathematical Sciences, Physics and Engineering, Nursing Science, Science Access Programme, Zoology) and the Science Centre.

The Faculty offers both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. We offer diverse and interesting qualifications that equip our students with relevant knowledge and skills in order to produce graduates that add value to society at large. We have a vibrant and dynamic academic body that strives to create an environment that is conducive for teaching and learning, and research generating new knowledge. We offer programmes that are accredited by the Council for Higher Education (CHE) and registered with South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). The quality of our subject content is guided by an advisory committee. To further motivate and encourage our students, our top achievers within the Faculty are offered various prizes.

We further contribute to academia with high quality research, hosting national and international conferences and peer reviewed research publications. We pride ourselves with having academics that enjoy well developed international links with researchers across the world and nationally. We strive to be a leading research intensive faculty and attract substantial financial support for research projects from external funding agents such as the National Research Foundation (NRF) and Water Research Commission (WRC). We further engage and give back to the community with our community outreach projects through various projects and our science centre.

1. To provide access t students from diverse backgrounds to an enabling and caring learning and teaching environment
2. To respond to the global demand for human resource development by training graduates in relevant programmes
3. To generate knowledge through research in the pure and applied sciences and to disseminate it through publications, teaching and       development, in partnership with the community and other constituencies.
