Biography:

Dr Thiart obtained a PhD.Eng (Supersonic gas dynamics) from Pretoria university. He also obtained an M.Eng (Nuclear) and B.Eng (Mechanical) from University of Pretoria. He spent most of his career on industrial projects in uranium enrichment and nuclear reactor development.

More recently he was involved in the development of a Centre of Excellence in Physical Asset Management at the University of Pretoria. It was funded by Eskom, Anglo and Sasol.

Research fields include supersonic nozzle development, Condensation in supersonic expansions, shock propagation during high pressure gas break accidents etc. More recent research include development in condition monitoring of machines and asset management practices.

Over a period of 5 years he lectured Post-graduate modules to more than 500 students from various countries.
