Community Engagement

  • Corporate sites, FOSKOR and RBCT, are accessed locally to improve the students’ exposure to the clinical set up in a business environment.
  • Students conduct annual wellness screenings at FOSKOR and RBCT for a week, under the supervision of a registered biokineticist, (Trevor Hutton (BK 0014257)
  • Richard’s Bay High School is used to improve the students’ exposure to more sport-related Biokinetics work.
  • The students assist rugby teams in their practice sessions with warm-ups, fitness levels were testing, and rehabilitating injuries.
  • The Department is collaborating with the Department of Consumer Science on a community projects held at two primary schools in the Vulindela area. The sports days are presented by final year students from both departments. The primary purpose of this is to create an environment for final year students to mirror their professions in the real world as well as providing sporting skills and nutritional advice to teachers and learners.
  • The Department also works with the regional SAFA Structures on talent identification and development.
