Professor
A full Professor of Microbiology in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at the University of Zululand. Her research focuses on surveillance of bacterial pathogens, microbial food safety, understanding antimicrobial resistance, and providing solutions through bioprospecting for new antimicrobial compounds. Furthermore, Prof. Madoroba strives to upgrade the status of indigenous foods through fermentation, and academic entrepreneurship. She has supervised several postgraduate students, has published in peer-reviewed journals, and has Google scholar h-index of 22 and i10-index of 36. As a member of the SASM 2025 Organising Committee, she is responsible for abstracts.
Senior Lecturer
A Senior Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at the University of Zululand. Her research focuses on molecular mechanisms of non-communicable diseases and the application of plant-based therapeutics. She has supervised several postgraduate students and published in peer-reviewed journals. Within the SASM 2025 organising committee, she serves as the Deputy Chair. She is assisting the Chair in overall planning and decision-making, liaising with the guest speakers, assisting in the development of the overall programme, and assisting in sourcing funding from companies based in KZN.
Lecturer
A lecturer in the field of Microbiology at the University of Zululand at Kwa-Dlangezwa campus. His research interests are wastewater purification using biological methods and nanotechnology. He has published over 15 peer reviewed manuscripts. He has successfully supervised/ co-supervised seven MSc and one PhD students. He is currently supervising/ co-supervising eight postgraduate (Honours, MSc and PhD) students. Within the SASM 2025, he is responsible for Abstract screening
Contract Lecturer
A Contract Lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology at the University of Zululand. His research focuses on plant-based therapeutics, particularly nanotechnology applications, as well as biogas production. He has supervised several postgraduate students and has published his work in peer-reviewed journals. As Chair of the SASM 2025 Organising Committee, he is responsible for overall planning and decision-making, liaising with guest speakers, coordinating the programme, and assisting in securing funding from companies based in KwaZulu-Natal.
Postdoctoral Researcher
A Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology with expertise in microbial biotechnology and wastewater treatment. His work focuses on the green synthesis of nanoparticles, bioflocculant-producing microorganisms, and their biomedical and environmental applications. He has published peer-reviewed articles, presented at international conferences, and is actively involved in supervising postgraduate students and mentoring young researchers. He is part of the organizing committee assisting the Sponsorship and Finance Coordinator.
Laboratory assistant
A Laboratory assistant for Biochemistry and Microbiology department at the University of Zululand at Kwa-Dlangezwa campus. Her research interests are in wastewater and sludge treatment using constructed wetlands and microbial nanoparticles. Her role within SAMS 2025 organising committee is coordinating design and print of conference materials
Lecturer
A lecturer in the field of Microbiology at the University of Zululand at kwa-Dlangezwa campus. He holds an MSc. degree in Microbiology. His research interests are in phytomedicine and aquatic microbiology. Within the SASM 2025, he is responsible for Marketing & social media: Promote the conference through social media platforms, create and distribute flyers, and manage the event’s online presence to attract more attendees.
