Biography:
Mr Sazi Nzama is a lecturer at the Department of Science Access. He is currently a PhD Zoology (Aquatic Ecology) candidate at The University of Zululand, where he is researching “Meiofauna diversity as a monitoring tool for habitat quality in Algoa and Cape St Francis Bay”. Mr Nzama has previously worked as a Senior Laboratory Technician and Contract Lecturer at The University of Zululand’s Department of Zoology and Science Access.

- 2023: South African Institute for Aquatic Biodiversity (SAIAB) & Distributed Platform in OMICS (DIPLOMICS) DNA Research Grant.
- 2023: University of Zululand – Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering Postgraduate Symposium Best Oral Presentation.
- 2022: Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Engaged Academic Team Member in the Student Engagement Category.
Research interests:
Mr Nzama’s research interests include the ecology of unconsolidated sediments in marine and estuarine ecosystems, with a particular focus on ecosystem habitat quality and benthic community ecology, namely the macrobenthic and meiobenthic faunal communities.

- Southern African Society of Aquatic Scientists.
