On 21 April 2026, Miss Mathe from the Department of Human Movement Science and Mr Buthelezi from the Department of Engineering proudly represented the university at the Ministerial Outreach Programme held at Masameni Sportsfield in Ward 15, NDZ Local Municipality, within the Harry Gwala District. The event was hosted by Qalintaba and Masameni schools and formed part of a broader initiative to promote education, career development, and community empowerment.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by General Mogotsi, who reflected on the district’s historical journey, with particular emphasis on educational progress and municipal development. Former Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma expressed sincere appreciation to the community, learners, and stakeholders for their active participation and commitment to development.
Mrs Nomusa Dube shared valuable insights from the WorldSkills initiative, encouraging learners to consider Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) colleges as viable pathways to acquiring practical, future-focused skills. Representatives from the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) were also in attendance, providing learners with information about diverse career opportunities and critical skills needed in various sectors.

A key highlight of the event was the address by the Minister of Defence, who reassured the community of government’s commitment to their safety while motivating learners to embrace the opportunities made possible through education and freedom. The Minister also engaged directly with invited stakeholders, including university representatives, where Miss Mathe and Mr Buthelezi had the opportunity to showcase the university’s academic offerings and discuss its role in shaping future leaders.
Following the formal proceedings, Miss Mathe and Mr Buthelezi actively engaged with learners, teachers, and parents, providing guidance on academic pathways and career opportunities available within the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering, as well as across the wider university. Their participation played a meaningful role in strengthening higher education awareness and inspiring learners to pursue further studies.
The outreach programme underscored the university’s ongoing commitment to community engagement, educational advocacy, and empowering young people through access to information and opportunity.
