Welcome to the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology in the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering, at the University of Zululand. Thank you for your interest in the department. Essential descriptions of the departmental program and qualification mix are provided to enable students and other visitors to choose the undergraduate and postgraduate degree, and research areas that they want to pursue. These descriptions are meant to inspire students to join the department as students or as academics. They are also meant to attract community stakeholders to participate in the academic enterprise of the department.
By its very nature the department is deeply entrenched in the basic sciences of human, environmental, animal, and plant functioning, health and well-being. It offers programs in Biochemistry and Microbiology in which these disciplines are studied alongside each other or alongside other disciplines offered in the Faculty of Science Agriculture and Engineering. The primary focus of the highly dedicated and experienced academic and academic support staff is to facilitate access to and successful completion of these programs.
