Biography:

Mr Buthelezi is a lecturer in the Department of Access  Science.

He has lot of experience as follows

  • From January 2019 to June 2019, worked as an unofficial support staff for Science Access botany students (SLBT 111). Assisted with practicals and tutorials.
  •  From June 2019 to December 2019, was officially appointed and worked as the main lecturer for Science Access botany students (SLBT112). Conducting Plant physiology, Genetics and Mycology theory classes.
  •  From January 2020 to October 2020, appointed as the main lecturer for SBOT and 4BOT 211 (Plant growth and Development) and SBOT 321 (Aquatic Botany and Lower Plant Taxonomy), conducting theory classes, practical classes, tutorials.
  •  From May 2021 to present, appointed as the main lecturer for 4FBL 119 (Foundation Biology), conducting theory classes and practical classes.

Qualifications:
MSc. Botany , BSc Agric (Agronomy) (UNIZULU),

(Research title: Agro-morphological, nutritional variability and heritability studies of Lagenaria siceraria landraces in northern KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa).

Research interests: 

Prof Zharare’s current research interests is on commercialization and domestication of indigenous fruit and essential oil plants.  includes developing fruit products for commercialization, identifying plants with potential for vegetable oil and essential oil production, optimising extraction protocols for the oils and assessing the growth requirements of the plants. He is currently researching on developing commercial products from fruits of Strychnos species and Saba comorensis with the intention of developing the plants into horticultural crops.

 Prof Zharare has previously worked on the agronomy of the groundnut crop with emphasis on its mineral nutrient requirements and its major pest, the groundnut leaf miner from which his has produced numerous publications.
