Biography:

Mr. Rogers Manzini is a lecturer in the Department of Consumer Sciences at the University of Zululand, KwaDlangezwa campus. He holds a Master’s Degree in Biochemistry (with a focus on Nutrition) (2020), an Honours Degree in Consumer Sciences (2016), and a Bachelor’s Degree in Consumer Science (Nutrition) (2010), all of which were obtained from the University of Zululand. Rogers is currently pursuing a PhD in Food and Nutrition (Consumer Science) at the Durban University of Technology. His PhD research project is titled: “Development, Implementation, and Evaluation of a Nutrition Resource Guide for the Life Skills and Life Orientation Curriculum: A Pilot Study in KwaZulu-Natal.”

Research interests: 

Rogers’ research interests lie in Food and Nutrition, with a focus on Community Nutrition, Childhood Nutrition, and Therapeutic Nutrition. Rogers is currently engaged in research aimed at addressing childhood obesity and improving nutrition education within the South African school system. Specifically, he is focused on developing, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive nutrition education resource guide for Life Skills and Life Orientation subjects in schools. This involves reviewing existing curricula, identifying gaps, and creating materials that are contextually relevant to South Africa. The ultimate goal of his study is to develop scalable, evidence-based interventions that can be implemented across all public schools in South Africa to combat the rising rates of childhood obesity.
