Research interests:
Research activities widely cover universities and students’ geographies, which include, among others:
- studentification,
- town-gown relationships,
- Students’ lived experiences (on-off campus)
- production of university spaces.
A variety of theories, such as space production (Henri Lefebvre), wretchedness (Frantz Fanon), and heterotopia (Michel Foucault), have framed these research themes.
Research interests also include the transformation of KwaZulu-Natal’s rural areas (rurbanisation). The bigger responsibility is to define, explore, map, frame, and classify to stay relevant in our rural development dialogues and policymaking.
