Research interests:

Dr Masikane interest in marine and estuarine ecotoxicology, with a particular focus on developing standard methods, procedures and toxicity test organisms for assessing marine pollution (e.g. pollution of effluents, pollution in receiving waters and sediments). He is also an interest in the ecology of unconsolidated sediments in marine and estuarine ecosystems, with particular emphasis on biodiversity assessment, habitat health assessment, pollution assessment and monitoring.

Research projects (completed and on-going) include:

  1. Marine Pollution Assessment (2016-2019)
  2. Environmental health assessment of South African coastal waters: Development and benchmarking of methods (2019-2028)
