Biography:

Prof Fabian Nde Fon is an Associate Professor in the Discipline of Animal Science, Department of Agriculture at the Faculty of Science and Agriculture, University of Zululand.  His research is based on Improving forage utilization in ruminants with potential fibrolytic microbes from wild herbivores, identification and Classification of rumen microbes browsing in same/different fields. His research has registered multiple postgraduate students from Honours, Masters to Doctor of Philosophy. He is a reviewer for Animals as well as an external examiner for different institutions.

Research interests: 

Prof Fon is interested in harvesting microbes from wild animals with fibrolytic potential to improve domestic ruminants utilisation as well as indigenous forages scavenging for smallholder farmers. He also has a passion to research in teaching and learning in Agriculture.

He is a winner of the national DUMINSANI NDABA award organised by ACCESS Habitable Planet program for their devotion in helping other young South Africans from disadvantage schools in rural communities. He also holds a certificate of appreciation by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Zululand for achieving the mile of an NRF rated researcher. He is also holds runner-up award for Distinguished Academic Award from the Vice Chancellor Awards in Teaching and Learning, University of Zululand
