Biography:

Professor KC Lehloenya is the Acting Dean in the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering at the University of Zululand. She is an Animal Scientist and her specialisation is in Reproduction Physiology. Prof Lehloenya has supervised multiple postgraduate students to completion and published numerous peer-reviewed articles on reproduction physiology and utilisation of assisted reproduction technologies in farm animals.  She also acts as a reviewer for a number of international journals on animal science, reproduction and theriogenology. Currently she is an associate editor for Small Ruminant Research Journal as well as a member of the board of trustees of the International Embryo Technology Society Foundation. In 2016, Prof Lehloenya was a visiting scholar at the University of Florida, USA.

BSc (Agriculture) (NUL), BScHons (Agriculture) (Animal Science) (UOFS), MSc (Agriculture) (Animal Science) (UFS), PhD (Agriculture) (Animal Science) (UFS) ” Multiple Ovulation and Embryo Transfer in Boer Goats”

Research interests: 

Utilisation of assisted reproduction technologies (oestrous synchronisation, artificial insemination, in vitro embryo production and gametes cryopreservation) in farm animals to speed up the genetic progress and conservation of valuable genetic material

Understanding how specific nutrients (antioxidants) and molecular biology can improve livestock production following the use of assisted reproductive technologies..

Prof Lehloenya’s career has been highlighted by receiving the following awards: The Honorary Award for Community Service at the University of the Free State in 2007, the Junior Researcher and Emerging Female Researcher Awards from Tshwane University of Technology in 2010 and 2012. She also received a runner-up award for Distinguished Young Women Scientists: Physical and Engineering Sciences for South African Women in Science 2012. In 2019, she received a Distinguished Academic Award for the Vice Chancellor Awards in Teaching and Learning, University of Zululand.
