Biography:

Dr Kate Ndwandwe is a Lecturer in the Department of Consumer Sciences and 
A departmental representative at faculty for Community

Lecture ‘s  the following modules:

  • Nutrition in the Life-Cycle
  • Introduction to Household and Consumer Studies
  • Appropriate Technology and Gender Planning
    Consumer and the Market
  • Interior Design and Planning
  • Work Integrated Learning (WIL) for Hospitality (preparation, placement, monitoring & assessment of students)

Qualifications:

Home Economics (UniZulu), M. Consumer Science (PUK, now NWU), PhD. Food Security (UKZN)

Certificates in Monitoring, evaluation of food and nutrition security programme (Wageningen University and Research, The Netherlands). Certificate in Management Development Programme (UKZN)

Research interests: 

Dr Ndwandwe research ‘s interest is in food product development and currently focusing on indigenous fruits and vegetables.  The other research area is on community nutrition education and development focusing on healthy eating and life style diseases such as HIV-AIDS, Hypertension, Diabetic mellitus Type 1 and 2, Heart disease and advisory in dealing with COVID-19 pandemic. Currently busy with community recycling project. I did a research project on labelling of textile products. Developed and evaluated the sensory quality of provitamin A biofortified maize based food products. Researched on the views and perceptions of provitamin A biofortified maize and hosted an awareness campaign on the effect of a provitamin A biofortified maize acceptance.
