Biography:
Prof Du Preez has been a Associate Professor in the Department of Consumer Sciences for 30 years, lecturing a variety of undergraduate and post graduate subjects and supervising several honours, masters and PhD students on a range of research topics
I lecture the following modules:
- Introduction to Hospitality Management
- Organisation and Management of Food Services
- Household Resource Management
- Management of Community Projects and Programs
- Research Methodology (Undergraduate and Honours)
- Work Integrated Learning
Qualifications:
PhD in Household and Consumer Studies from Wageningen University in The Netherlands
Professional membership:
- South African Association for Family Ecology and Consumer Sciences (SAAFECS) – Serving on the executive committee
- South African Association for Food Science and Technology (SAAFoST)
- International Federation for Home Economics (IFHE)
Honours/Awards (include online reference for each honour/ award):
- I was one of 20 recipients of a full scholarship from AWLAE to study towards my PhD.
- In 2018 I was nominated for a Teaching Award at the University of Zululand
- In 2019 I received a long service award (30 years)
Research interests:
Her main research interest is in household livelihood generation, but she has also conducted research in the field of food and nutrition security. She has supervised four Masters and two PhD students and currently supervising three Masters and one PhD in 2021.
