About the Department of Physics and Engineering

Physics is an exciting intellectual adventure that inspires young people and expands the frontiers of our knowledge about Nature.

The Physics and Engineering Department is situated at Blocks E and F in the KwaDlangezwa Campus of the University of Zululand.  Currently, we offer modules leading to a BSc (Physics ). This is followed by a one year BSc (Hons).

We also offer post-graduate studies leading to MSc and PhD in physics within the scope of research themes, namely, nanotechnology, nuclear physics and solid state physics.

As a department we are engaged in various community activities e.g. our Science Centre in Richards Bay has a wide range of activities for learners, educators and public in general.

As a student, you will learn the fundamentals necessary for employment via the degree programmes that you are registered for. The department appoints students as Physics tutors, giving students the opportunity to assist their peers with difficult concepts. Physics also hires students as laboratory instructors, laboratory assistants and as student researchers.
