Biography:

Mr. Yanga Nontu is an accomplished academic with a strong background in agricultural economics. He holds a Master of Science degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Fort Hare and is currently pursuing a doctoral philosophy in agricultural economics at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Currently, Mr. Nontu is a dedicated and highly motivated lecturer in agribusiness at the Department of Agriculture at the University of Zululand. He is passionate about teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students and has a proven track record of excellence in academia. He is an affiliate of the South African Society of Agricultural Extension (SASAE) and Agricultural Economics Association of South Africa (AEASA), and regularly attends conferences and seminars to keep up to date with the latest developments in his field.

Research interests: 

Mr. Yanga Nontu’s research interests lie in the area of agribusiness and agricultural economics, with a particular focus on issues impacting smallholder farming. His research interest extends beyond this to include climate change, climate-smart agriculture, food security, rural development, and ICT integration in agriculture. He has published manuscripts in different accredited local and international journals in his field. In addition to his academic pursuits, Mr. Nontu is an active member of his community and participates in various community activities. He is committed to promoting sustainable agriculture and improving food security in rural communities. He is involved in various community-based organizations that work to address food insecurity and promote sustainable agriculture practices.
