Research interests:
Ms Mabuza is a Plant breeder, and her research focus on mutation breeding of sorghum and crop improvement of under-utilized indigenous crops in south Africa. Her current PhD research not only focuses mutation breeding, but also focuses on crop improvement using field phenotyping techniques, nutritional profiling, and molecular genetics and traditional breeding methods. Through her interdisciplinary efforts, she not only expands on Plan Breeding but also advocates for genetic conservation, utilization, and crop improvement of under-utilized indigenous crops as this addresses critical agricultural concerns such as poverty, food security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
