Biography
Prof ST Madlala is an Associate Professor under the Department of Nursing Science in the Faculty of Science, Agriculture and Engineering at the University of Zululand. He has worked as a Theatre Scrub nurse, Recovery room nurse, Lecturer at Netcare Education and a Lecturer at South African Military Health Services. He also worked as Assistant Nurse Manager in the public sector and as a Lecturer at Ga-Rankuwa Nursing College and at the Free State School of Nursing.
Professor ST Madlala has been a Clinical Coordinator from 2017-2019 and in 2020, was a departmental Teaching and Learning coordinator. He worked at the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Monitoring and Evaluation Professional Advisor in the Provider Affairs department. He has a vast knowledge in curriculum development and curriculum evaluation. Professor ST Madlala was appointed as an acting Head of Department in the Department of Nursing Science with effect from March 2024.

Research – Qualitative, quantitative and mixed method, Health services management, Nursing education, Midwifery, Psychiatric nursing.
Research interests:
Professor ST Madlala’s niche area is in Maternal and Reproductive Healthcare, and Nursing Education and Administration. He has successfully supervised post graduate students to completion. Furthermore, he has reviewed articles for various Journals and examined Dissertations and Thesis for National and International Universities.
Community engagement:
Professor ST Madlala is involved in various community projects such as being an examiner and moderator for the professional body (SANC), teenage pregnancy prevention project for KwaDlangezwa High schools, hand washing project at Ngwelezana High schools during COVID-19 and Provincial Leadership for Nurse Managers in KwaZulu-Natal province workshops conducted biannually. Professor ST Madlala was a board member of the Northern Campuses of KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing (KZNCN). Furthermore, he is serving as an external moderator for various Universities.
