Biography:
Mr. Mgobhozi Lucky, is a lecturer in the Department of Nursing Science. He started his journey by getting a bachelor’s degree in nursing science from Durban University of Technology in 2013. After that, he continued his studies and got a master’s degree in nursing from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2017.
While studying, he also worked as a nurse at Untunjambili District Hospital, working in obstetric theatre and general outpatient care. Additionally, he shared his knowledge part-time as a Clinical Facilitator at Ludumo Nursing College.
Mr. Mgobhozi kept pushing himself academically, completing a course in Nursing Education at North-West University and a diploma in Primary Health Care from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.
He then became a Lecturer at Walter Sisulu University, where he imparted knowledge in Midwifery and Primary Health Care until 2022. Now, he’s working on his Ph.D. at the University of Zululand while continuing to teach there. His journey shows his passion for both learning and teaching in the field of Nursing.

Research interests:
His research interests lie at the intersection of primary health care (PHC) programs, maternal health, and reproductive health, with a particular focus on family planning, contraceptives, and basic antenatal care. He is deeply committed to exploring innovative strategies to enhance the effectiveness and accessibility of PHC services, especially in underserved communities.
Within maternal and reproductive health, he is keen on investigating interventions that promote safe motherhood, improve birth outcomes, and empower women to make informed choices regarding their reproductive health. This encompasses research into family planning methods, contraceptive technologies, and the provision of comprehensive antenatal care to ensure healthy pregnancies and childbirth experiences.
Furthermore, his research endeavors extend to community health care, where he is dedicated to exploring initiatives related to nutrition and vaccination. By studying community-level interventions, he aims to identify sustainable approaches to address health disparities, promote preventive health behaviors, and enhance overall well-being within diverse populations.
Overall, his research agenda is driven by a commitment to advancing evidence-based practices and policies that contribute to the improvement of health outcomes, particularly among vulnerable and marginalized populations. Through interdisciplinary collaboration and community engagement, he seeks to make a meaningful impact in the field of public health.
