Community Service

The Department of Nursing Science of the University of Zululand is involved in various forms of Community Service.

Academic

Academics of the Department of Nursing Science, provide community service in the form of:

  1. Moderation of academic examination papers and clinical examinations, which serve as external quality evaluation of the examinations conducted by the Department of Nursing Science partner, the KwaZulu-Natal department of Health,  KwaZulu-Natal College of Nursing.
  2. Moderation of examinations for various University Nursing Departments/Schools around South Africa e.g. DUT, Univen and Stellenbosch, among others
  3. Examination of Master and PhD studies for various University Nursing Departments/Schools around South Africa e.g. Durban University of Technology (DUT), University of Venda (Univen), Stellenbosch, North West University (NWU), University of the Western Cape (UWC) and the University of Pretoria (UP) among others.
  4. The Department of Nursing Science conducted a Leadership workshop for Department of Health Nursing Leaders at Greys Hospital in June 2019.

5.Our partner, Life Health Care, which is a Private Hospital Group, is currently funding five Bachelor of Nursing Students with funds which cover the students’ registration fees, book fees, Meals and Accommodation for the duration of the students’ degree. On completion of the students Community Service, these five students are guaranteed employment by Life Health Care.
